Our Mission

Camp Wenonah is guided by the mission of the Winona Family YMCA:

To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

At camp, this mission comes alive as we create space where all can learn, grow, and thrive through meaningful outdoor experiences. We are committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming camp community and providing safe, age-appropriate experiences that nurture the potential of every camper.

YMCA Values At Camp

The YMCA's core values are part of everyday life at Camp Wenonah. Staff model these values and help campers practice them through activities, relationships, teamwork, and shared responsibilities.

  • Caring: Show concern for others and help create a supportive camp community.
  • Honesty: Be truthful and make choices with integrity.
  • Respect: Treat others, ourselves, and the natural environment with respect.
  • Responsibility: Take ownership of our choices, actions, and role within the camp community.

More Than a Day Outdoors

Having fun is an important part of camp—but the Camp Wenonah experience goes beyond the activities themselves.

From outdoor adventures and team challenges to everyday interactions with counselors and fellow campers, each part of the camp day provides opportunities to learn and grow. Campers are encouraged to try new things, work with others, make decisions, solve problems, and become more confident and independent.

Through these experiences, we aim to help campers:

  • Develop a sense of belonging and connection
  • Build confidence by trying new things and taking on challenges
  • Form positive relationships and practice teamwork
  • Become more comfortable exploring and spending time outdoors
  • Develop independence, personal responsibility, and leadership skills
  • Build respect and appreciation for the natural world
  • Experience success, growth, and plenty of fun along the way

Challenge by Choice

Campers grow when they have opportunities to step outside their comfort zones—but that looks different for every child.

Our challenge-by-choice approach encourages campers to try new experiences and challenge themselves at a level that feels right for them. Staff provide encouragement and support while helping campers build confidence, learn from mistakes, and recognize what they are capable of accomplishing.

Our Commitment To Child Safety

Your child’s physical, emotional, and social safety is our top priority. We maintain strict safety procedures, staff training standards, and up-to-date certifications to create a secure, supportive environment.
